UW Academic Visits
The UW Farm is a inter-disciplinary growing space and resource that welcomes many UW classes onto the farm each quarter. We would love to support your experience at the farm if our capacity allows.
Field Trips / Tours
A field trip to the farm consists of a tour by a farm staff or student engaged with the farm. Field Trips on the UW Farm builds educational, historical, and contextual background of the farm. It also introduces students to some of the agricultural practices we use, where our produce goes, and how students can get involved.
- one-time visit and can be scheduled for a specific class time or section time(s) for a course, typically 30-90 minutes
- farm staff can accommodate discussing specific course learning goals or focus areas
Labs
Labs on the UW Farm are hands-on learning experiences to build skills and knowledge in urban farming and our practices. These differ from field trips in that the farm team will work with the course lead to develop the curicculum and activites for the lab.
- farm staff can potentially help facilitate a special activity on the farm, such as soil sampling, harvest etc
- hosted by farm staff or course TAs with farm staff assistance in set up/clean up
Course Support
The farm team can support your course’s learning goals in the following ways:
- speaking engagements
- potentially donating produce
- borrowing tools
- etc!
Scheduling
The farm team will do our best to accommodate your class, but may need to work with you to ensure that your class does not overlap with any prior commitments. We encourage you to schedule ~4 weeks before the quarter start or we may not be able to fulfill your request.
