We are offering both virtual and in-person classes and workshops.
We offer ProHort classes geared to landscape professionals and Ecological Restoration classes for restoration practitioners. Classes include both classroom time and field instruction, and participants are encouraged to bring their workplace challenges and success stories to the group for discussion.
Everyone is welcome to register for these classes, but be aware that content will be taught at a professional level. AmeriCorps Education Awards can be used to pay for our classes. Contact us at urbhort@uw.edu or 206-685-8033 with any questions.
For virtual classes offering professional continuing education units – credits are only available for live attendance in the class and cannot be earned by watching the recording.

Regular Series Course Information:
PlantAmnesty/ProHort Master Pruner Series
This lecture series, offered in partnership with PlantAmnesty, is designed for those who work in landscape maintenance. Each lecture provides information on tools and techniques for quality pruning with better long-term results and customer satisfaction.
Professional continuing education credits pending: APLD-2, CPH-2, ecoPRO-2, ISA-2, NALP/WALP-2, LA-CES-2 for each 2-hour lecture.
To receive PlantAmnesty’s Pruning Certification, students must attend all 12 lectures and 3 pruning workshops. Registration through UW Botanic Gardens ONLY includes the 12 lectures. The workshops are scheduled and managed through PlantAmnesty, and are paid for separately.

This series runs twice a year, once in the summer (July-August) and once in the winter (January-February).
Soils Science Series
Join us in our “Getting Down to Earth: Understanding soils for ecosystem resilience and repair” series to learn about the properties of soil, the ecology of soil in its microclimate and larger environment, and how to manage and remediate soil for your restoration site. These classes were developed and are instructed by Christina Pfeiffer and Rodney Pond and are a part of UW Botanic Garden’s Ecological Restoration for Professionals program. This series will be beneficial for those working in ecological restoration, landscape professionals, landscape architects and designers, and natural area stewards. Home gardeners are welcome as well!
