All Volunteers must sign up before arriving for liability reasons and for communications and records. Please visit this website page to learn how to sign up.

Important Dates:

  • January 10th – CELE Volunteer Orientation from 9am-12pm, farm site on east campus, just west of the Center for Urban Horticulture. Orientation is required for students earning credit for class via CELE. CELE volunteers should visit this website page for additional details.
  • January 16th – CELE Volunteer Orientation from 1pm-4pm, farm site on east campus, just west of the Center for Urban Horticulture. Orientation is required for students earning credit for class via CELE. CELE volunteers should visit this website page for additional details.
  • January 19th – The first volunteer shift of the 2026 season begins on the Martin Luther King holiday, at the farm site on east campus, just west of the Center for Urban Horticulture, 9am-12pm.
  • January 22nd – Regular volunteer shifts begin, three days/week, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12pm-3pm.

Sign Up Forms:

  • New volunteers are required to sign up by completing Steps 1 and 2 on our Sign-Up Page.
  • Returning volunteers must complete Step 1 on our Sign-Up Page prior to their first shift of each quarter.
  • All volunteer shifts are walk-on. After completing forms, just show up at the location and time specified on the schedule.
  • All volunteers also complete an attendance form at the beginning of each shift after arriving.

Shift Readiness:

  • Arrive within the first five minutes of a shift
  • Wear closed-toed, sturdy shoes and thick, heavy socks.
  • Bring a hat, snack, water bottle, and weather-resistant layers of clothing.
  • Be prepared to work with the farm team in all weather conditions.

Active Growing Location Descriptions:

  • Mercer Court – Planned Urban farm, residential growing site between seven-story buildings and on the top of a parking garage
  • Center for Urban Horticulture – Main production farm, full sun growing site, adjacent to Union Bay Natural Area
  •  McMahon Hall – Rooftop Culinary Garden
