Group Volunteering Opportunities

Group of volunteers weeding squash together at the UW FarmThe UW Farm welcomes large group volunteering opportunities for UW-affiliated, community organizations, corporations, and anyone wanting to bring their group as a way to learn about our urban farm, support efforts to grow food for the local community, and to get in the dirt together as a team!

We define a large group as 6-30 people. If you have less than 6 people, you’re welcome to walk on to a volunteer shift without prior scheduling. See our Volunteering and Sign Up page for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  • Who: At this time we are hosting adults only.  Please contact UW Botanic Gardens Youth and Family Education uwbgeduc@uw.edu for youth opportunities.
  • Group size: Limited to 30 people.
  • Time Commitment: Our shifts are 3 hours long. Please see our quarterly volunteer schedule for specific shift times and locations.
  • Activities: All group experiences begin with a 1 hour tour of the farm. Followed by 2 hours of volunteering. You’ll join in on the farm tasks for the day, which could include: harvesting & washing produce, preparing beds, weeding, planting, creating bouquets, and more! The nature of the tasks are physical and dirty.
  • Weather: Rain or shine!
  • What to bring: We will provide all tools needed. Please bring water, snacks, and clothes that can get dirty. In hot weather, we recommend sunscreen and a hat. In cold weather, layers and waterproof clothing.
  • Parking & Facilities: All groups are offered free parking, restroom facilities & potable water on the farm!
  • What is the process: Please fill the Group Volunteering Request Form so we can gather all necessary information from you, then within 5 days the farm will reach out to you to confirm a date. There will be a liability and sign up form that each member of your group will need to complete.
