Spring Volunteer Schedule begins March 30th

The UW Farm welcomes UW students, staff and the general public to volunteer at our farm sites. As a student farm, our schedule revolves around the academic calendar and the seasons.

 

Important Details:

Each quarter the volunteer opportunities change. Be sure to check the schedule regularly to learn which of the three growing sites are actively hosting volunteer shifts.

ALL Volunteers must sign up before arriving for liability reasons and for communications and records. Please visit the Volunteering Sign Up Information page for details.

*Saturday Shift Locations:

  • March 28th – NO VOLUNTEER SHIFT
  • April 4th – Center for Urban Horticulture
  • April 11th – Center for Urban Horticulture
  • April 18th – Mercer Court
  • April 25th – Mercer Court

Sign Up Forms:

  • New volunteers are required to sign up by completing Steps 1 and 2 on our Sign-Up Page.
  • Returning volunteers must complete Step 1 on our Sign-Up Page prior to their first shift of each quarter.
  • All volunteer shifts are walk-on. After completing forms, just show up at the location and time specified on the schedule.
  • All volunteers also complete an attendance form at the beginning of each shift after arriving.

Shift Readiness:

  • Arrive within the first five minutes of a shift
  • Wear closed-toed, sturdy shoes and thick, heavy socks.
  • Bring a hat, snack, water bottle, and weather-resistant layers of clothing.
  • Be prepared to work with the farm team in all weather conditions.

Active Growing Location Descriptions:

  • Mercer Court (Mercer) – Planned Urban Farm, residential growing site between seven-story buildings and on the top of a parking garage
  • Center for Urban Horticulture (CUH) – main Production Farm, full sun growing site on top of an old city dump (1916-1966), adjacent to Union Bay Natural Area
  •  McMahon Hall – Rooftop Culinary Garden at a residential dorm
