We hope summer brings you sun, fresh air, and time to read. On display this month in the Miller Library you’ll find a few off-the-beaten-path selections to engage your intellect this summer.

Believe it or not, there are over 100 plant sales in the Pacific Northwest in April, including the FlorAbundance sale on April 25-26.

Artist Kathleen Wolfe celebrates her love of nature with oil paintings on canvas featuring poppies, water lilies and landscape with majestic trees. Her paintings will be on display in the Miller Library from August 5th to September 16th.
Meet the artist at a free reception at the Elisabeth C. Miller Library on Wednesday, August 13th from 5:00 to 7:00pm. 

Did you know that the Miller Library has  fresh seed packets collected from Hardy Plant Society of Washington member gardens? And that they are only $1 per packet? And that proceeds benefit the Miller Library? Come get them before they are gone! 

We are pleased to announce two new email newsletters: Leaflet and Leaflet for Scholars. These monthly publications showcase Library art exhibits, recommended resources and a complete list of new books added the previous month.

Local photographer and avid birder, Larry Hubbell, experiments with drawing bird portraits up close and personal. Viewers get the impression birds are doing the watching.

Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes summer hours at the Miller Library. The library will be opening at noon on Mondays (instead of 9am) starting June 17. Monday morning hours resume on September 23. We will be closed Saturdays, starting July 6. Saturday hours will resume September 7. We will also be closed July 4th and 5th for Independence Day. 

The winners of the botanical art exhibit held in conjunction with the conference Conserving Plant Biodiversity in a Changing World: A View from NW North America were announced Wednesaday afternoon at the close of the conference.

The public is invited to a presentation of the Oral History of UWBG project on Tuesday, November 1, from 5 – 7 pm in the Miller Library. Several displays will showcase the interview collection and will remain on exhibit in the library from Oct 21 until the week of Nov 20.

In the spring of 2001 the Elisabeth C. Miller Library launched a new service designed to answer plant and gardening questions quickly over the phone or via email. Now we’re celebrating the ten year anniversary of the free answer service for gardeners.
