SER-UW Native Plant Nursery – Fall Plant Sale!

The SER-UW Native Plant Nursery, a student-run organization that promotes local ecosystems, is hosting a fall native plant sale! We will be selling a variety of species native to the Puget lowlands. Do you have a backyard restoration project you need plants for? Are you looking to attract some native pollinators in your garden? Look no further – check out our plants!

Here are some of our current favorites:

Large-leaved avens (Geum macrophyllum)

Large-leaved avens is an herbaceous perennial that grows to 1 to 3 feet tall at maturity. It prefers moderately moist, well drained soils. It produces small, but tall, yellow flowers that bloom from May to June.

Tall Oregon grape (Mahonia aquifolium)

Tall Oregon grape grows up to about 6 or 7 feet tall. It thrives in sunny, well-drained conditions and is fairly tolerant of dry soil and low nutrient levels. It has bright yellow flowers that bloom in the early spring, beautiful fall foliage, and dusky blue, edible (but sour!) fruit that forms in the summer and early fall.

Sword fern (Polystichum munitum)

This evergreen fern grows abundantly in understory forests in the Pacific Northwest. It prefers cool, shady and moist areas. It can be used as ground cover, and protects against erosion. Carefully dividing large plants can create more ferns.

Snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus)

This medium sized shrub grows best in mostly or partly sunny conditions. It has thin branching with persistent white berries. It produces white or pink flowers between May and August.
