Junior Naturalists

  • WHO:   Teens aged 15-18
  • WHEN: Junior Naturalists serve for at least one 2-week session. See details on sessions below.
  • WHERE: Washington Park Arboretum. Arboretum
  • COST: Free. This is a volunteer opportunity. Junior Naturalists may use this experience to meet service hour requirements. A reference letter is available at the successful completion of the two weeks.

Junior Naturalists are teens volunteering with the Arboretum Summer Camp. We’re looking for teens that are enthusiastic with working with kids, playing outside, and gaining leadership skills. Junior Naturalists will be paired with a Summer Naturalist and assist them in their responsibilities for a small group of campers aged 6-8 years old. Junior Naturalists will have the opportunity to lead games and activities with the guidance of their Naturalist. This position is designed to provide experience and skills in teaching and working with children, expand environmental knowledge, and develop leadership skills.

2021 Junior Naturalist Session Schedule

Each session is two weeks long, Monday-Friday each week.

  • Session 1: June 21 – July 2
  • Session 2: July 6 – July 16 (no camp on Monday, July 5th)
  • Session 3: July 19 – July 30
  • Session 4: August 2 – August 13
  • Session 5: August 16 – August 27
